Features & Facilities

Dining in the Daintree Rainforest

Breakfast is tropical continental with the choicest local fruits and jams and is served in The Lodge at a time to suit you between 7.30am and 10.30am. Let us know if you have special requirements.

There is a small fridge in each tree house should you choose to bring food and drinks. There are no cooking facilities available.

There are a number of local cafés and restaurants a short drive away and a small grocery store/petrol station is just up the road from the retreat.

We can provide you with information on where to go during your stay.

The Lodge

Crafted from beautiful local timbers and featuring a roof thatched in the traditional Balinese style.

The Lodge is an inviting haven, tempting you to laze at your private table after breakfast, gazing at the Coral Sea in the distance… or relax around the curling ‘Python Bar’ created from 142 individual cuts of exquisite rosewood mahogany.

Here you will find an assortment of books about the world’s oldest rainforest to browse at your leisure.

WIFI access is also available from The Lodge.

The Pool

The freshwater infinity pool with its soothing cascading waterfall, is another place to escape.

From the large timber deck, the views hold you in awe… there is Thornton Peak, the Daintree’s tallest mountain, often wrapped in cloud and mystery… there is the Coral Sea and, always, the rainforest surrounding you.

What to see and do

There is plenty to enjoy and explore during your stay.

Be amazed by the variety of tropical fish whilst snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef, or learn about the Daintree Rainforest flora and fauna with a guided tour.

Take a wander along the Daintree Rainforest boardwalks immersed in nature, stroll along the stunning beaches and enjoy a meal at the local restaurants and cafés.

Cockatoo Retreat proved to be a 10/10 visit in every regard. Beautiful accommodation in an outstanding location. We saw over 35 bird species in 3 days onsite. Even Australia's Threatened Species Commissioner Gregory Andrews was also staying there. Cassowaries are known to regularly meander through and we saw one down at the road. Listening to all the rainforest medley of bird insect and animal sounds gently distill up from the rain forest canopy below was incredible.

This is a really special place. Every part of your stay has breathtaking views– your room, the pool, the main house. Highly recommend this place. You're not just paying for luxury when you stay at Cockatoo Hill– you're paying for a memory, and you most likely won't forget your time there.

A tropical paradise! My husband and I spend 6 wonderful nights at Cockatoo Hill. The rooms are magnificent, with a view over the rainforest all the way to the beach. Carmen was a fantastic host, she provided fresh wonderful breakfasts every morning, and talked to us about the local wildlife and helped us to arrange some local activities in the Daintree. We look forward to visiting Cockatoo Hill Retreat again!

We loved our stay at Cockatoo Hill Retreat. Excellent hospitality - we really felt we were well looked after - with delicious breakfasts every morning, the host booked our tours and evenings out directly with the operators and taught us all about the Daintree, it's flora and fauna. For our honeymoon it was the perfect balance of luxury, privacy, being amongst our natural environment and being well looked after.

Incredible! Fantastic view, great host and a truly exceptional experience! We would definitely stay here again. The view is unbeatable, in the middle of the Daintree with the ocean in the distance. No lights around and the stars are incredibly clear to see.

Luxury in the heart of the rainforest. My partner and I had the best stay at Cockatoo Hill Retreat! The hosts go above and beyond to make you feel right at home in the incredibly beautiful Daintree rainforest. The Balinese style house and cabins are beautifully designed with thatched roofs and floor to ceiling windows overlooking nothing but the pristine rainforest, all the way out to the sea. A truly memorable experience.

Beautiful rainforest retreat! We had an amazing 2 night stay at Cockatoo Hill Retreat. The huts were private and set in stunning grounds full of flowers, trees, butterflies and birds. Each hut has its own balcony with a beautiful view over the rainforest and the large glass windows mean you wake up every morning to the sunrise over the trees. It really did feel like a retreat!

A place of sublime peace and wonder and timelessness. The Bali-inspired -and very private-bungalows float above the rain forest with views to the Coral Sea. You'll lounge in a beautiful 4 poster bed with views you'll never forget. Watch the sunrise from the ocean in the East. The whole 'Retreat' has been designed with love and care, and a deft hand. The landscaped grounds are beautiful with gentle walkways, leading to the bungalows from the main lodge, and a pool looking to the rain forest and the ocean beyond.
